AP Language and Composition

AP Language and Composition follows the guidelines for the College Board description and expectations for the AP Language course. The course is certified and the instructor's syllabus is audited and registered annually.

The College Board expects students enrolled in an AP course to take and pass the AP exam in May. Exceptions are made for students who, for one reason or another, choose to opt out of sitting for the exam.

Students who score a 3,4, or 5 on the exam and wish to receive college credit should check with the colleges to which they are applying or have been accepted to determine their policy on AP courses. It varies widely, but college credit or not, this course is an excellent college preparatory course for close and critical reading and effective writing.

AP Language is not a literature course. Students will read and write essays, learn the rhetorical strategies of persuasive communication, and develop their oen writing style, voice and techniques of argument.
