Databases & subscriptions

Databases & Subscriptions

These are resources that are available because the school, district, SU, or state of Vermont pays for them. The resources here will not show up in a regular Google search because they are only available to subscribers. Some will need log-in credentials; if you don't have the username & password yet, they are in the document linked below. (You have to be logged into your school account to access it.)

Accessing online resources - passwords you may need! This document has the information NMHS students need for accessing subscription resources. If you are trying to access something that is not listed, please ask Mrs. Kissel for help.

Need help using these resources? Try the "Ask the librarian" form.

Vermont Online Library

The Vermont Online Library (VOL) offers a wide array of electronic databases on a variety of topics. It is available to you 24/7, anywhere you have internet access.

The VOL is open to anyone in Vermont; as long as you are in the state, you should not need a password to access it. If you need the out-of-state password, ask Mrs. Kissel.

For more information about the VOL and how it can help you with your research projects, ask Mrs. Kissel or take a look at the Digital Resources slideshow linked on the library homepage.

Britannica School

Britannica School is the online version of Encyclopedia Britannica. Get great information on your topic and even suggestions for websites. Citing your source is simple, too! (Citations are provided and you can copy & paste them into NoodleTools.)

You do not need any log-in information to access it while you are at NMHS; if you plan to access it outside of school, make sure to get the username and password from Mrs. Kissel.

You may want to go to this page to learn about some of the features you might find helpful.

Classroom Video On Demand

"Great videos on a ton of topics -- it's like YouTube for homework assignments!" 24-hour access, anywhere you have internet. If you are at school, you won't even need to sign in to access the videos. If you are NOT at school the first time you sign in, you will need a username & password (get it from Mrs. Kissel). You can then create your own log-in using your school Google account. When you are signed in, you can save playlists of videos to make it easier to find them again later.

Citations are provided for all the videos and you can even export them to NoodleTools.

Science Online

The Science Online database contains book and journal articles, images and videos, timelines, tables and charts, and diagrams in all areas of the science curriculum. If you sign in with your school Google account, you can save articles to come back to them later. Citations are provided and can be copied and pasted into the Works Cited or References for your project.
