VOL (Vermont On-Line Library)
VOL Databases are available to you 24/7, on your computer or mobile device.
The Vermont Online Library (VOL) offers a wide array of electronic information databases on a variety of topics geared to a range of age levels, available to you 24 hours a day from anywhere Internet access is available.
The VOL start page has links to groups of databases by topic and interest. Click on one to view and access specific databases. The eBooks link at the bottom of the page will get you to the Gale Virtual Reference Library.
The VOL is available to all Vermont residents -- you don't need a password to get on, as long as you are accessing it in Vermont; if you are planning on accessing it while out of state, you'll need a password.
Course-specific resources
Many of the links on these pages will take you to a OneNote notebook with resources for a specific project. Most notebooks include:
- Assignment (the handout from your teacher)
- Library Resources
- Print Resources: generally books in the NMHS library
- Digital (or Online) Resources:The Vermont online Library and Britannica School are examples of digital resources provided by the library.
- Websites: other online sources which are not provided by the school or library
There are general resources which have information on many of the individual topics from the assignment. For many projects, there is also a separate page of resources for each topic choice.
How are these things organized? If you are not familiar with the look of OneNote notebooks online, here are a few tips. There are tabs on the left-hand side of the Notebook page, for the Assignment and for various resources. You have to click on the main heading to see additional pages that are listed for that tab.
