The 50s

Sources of information for your 1950s project

 OneNote notebook for this project

This link will take you to a OneNote notebook with resources for your project. There are tabs (on the left) for the Assignment and for Library Resources (including the links below), but you may need to click the icon to see the tabs.

Here are a few resources of particular interest:

American Decades

American Decades

This is a 10-volume set of books. You can search through the entire set at once, or you can choose a decade and just search for your topic within that time period. For this project, you would be wise to limit your search to one decade; the link should take you right to the 1950s volume, but if it doesn't, the decade selector drop-box is on the page.

  • Once you get to the1950s, select an area of interest (for example, The 1950s: Lifestyles and Social Trends) and expand the list to see links to specific topics. If you go straight to the main article, it will have more of a summary, but not all the info from the subtopic links.
  • If you've already chosen a product, you can search for it just in the 1950s volume by using the search box to the left (the search box that says "within publication" -- and remember to select "within this volume" below the search box).

American Decades Primary Sources

This is similar to American Decades but is composed of primary sources.

Bowling, Beatniks, and Bell-Bottoms: Pop Culture of 20th-Century America

Bowling, Beatniks, and Bell-Bottoms: Pop Culture of 20th-Century America

There is not a separate volume for just the 1950s, so you will have to select the 1940s-1950s volume -- and then don't forget to pay attention to which decade you are looking at once you get there.
