Student Support

How Students Receive Support at NMHS

NMHS has a multi-tiered approach to providing academic and behavioral supports for students. The program is implemented by the NMHS Education Support Team (EST). The EST Team is a group of dedicated educators who meet on a weekly basis and work closely with teachers to provide a comprehensive support system for all students. When students encounter challenges in the classroom; teachers begin the support process:

  1. The teacher will contact parents to gather information and discuss strategies that may be used to support the student in the classroom.
  1. If those strategies are not successful, the teacher will contact the student’s T.A. and ask the T.A. to set up a Teacher Advisory Action Plan (TAAP) meeting with parents, student, and other classroom teachers. The TAAP meeting will be used to establish an action plan that will support student success.
  1. If further support is needed beyond the action plan a referral will be made to the Educational Support Team (E.S.T.). Members of the EST team will collect and review more data and create an EST Plan that will be circulated to teachers and parents.

Please contact your student’s T.A. or their School Counselor if you have any questions about this process.
